Delicious Keto Keema!

Hey everyone! Hope you guys are doing great this mid-March! Here’s my second video on YouTube. I’m really enjoying recording videos and I think I’ll keep doing this for as long as I can.

This dish here is an Indian dish but my nenek used to make this for us. She told me that her granddad was Indian. We’re truly a multiracial family! I did make this one a ketogenic version though. There’s not much of a change and the flavor is good. Great simple Asian recipe for me when I do miss home!

This also marks the first keto recipe I have posted on the Everyday Noms blog. If you like it, please give me feedback by commenting below! I’ll be happy to share more Asian keto recipes with you 🙂

Keto Keema

Print Recipe
Servings 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 large red onion
  • 5 tbsp minced garlic fresh is okay
  • 2 tbsp minced ginger fresh is okay
  • A little bit of water
  • 3 tbsp oil more if necessary
  • 10 cloves
  • 4 cardamoms
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp turmeric
  • 1 tbsp coriander
  • 1 tbsp garam masala
  • 4 tomatoes diced
  • 1-2 lbs ground beef or mutton
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 bunch cilantro chopped
  • 15-20 bird’s eye chili peppers optional
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • First, blend onion, garlic and ginger together. Add a little bit of water. Blend until you get a purple smoothie looking consistency.
  • Heat up the oil. I use a high smoke point oil and this one is avocado oil. Throw in the cloves and cardamoms and wait for them to sizzle a little.
  • Next, add the blended ingredients. Have your heat on medium, keep stirring. You can cover it for a while but watch it regularly and don’t let it burn. Let it cook and wait for it to get really aromatic.
  • Add in all the powdered spices. At this stage, I can see that the concoction is a little dry, so I added about a couple more tablespoons of oil. Be patient with this. Keep stirring. You know it’s ready when it looks like the oil has separated from the paste. Basically the paste looks glistening and shiny instead of matte.
  • Once that happens, throw in your ground meat, literally. Mix it all up and add about a cup of water. Let it cook. Once the meat is cooked, throw in the tomatoes and and salt to taste. You’ll want to leave it again until the oil separates.
  • When it looks shiny like this, add in the chili pepper and cilantro. Stir for a while and then it’s done!
